We started the journey by deciding to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and not the sea during the rainy season. Although it is very popular among Bengalis to go to the mountains in the rainy season, the conflict over it never stops. We will take you on this journey to the hills of North Bengal, where the rain-soaked natural beauty will enchant you.

We started our journey from the south platform. We boarded the 13149 Kanchanakanya Express, which arrives in Dakshineswar at 9 pm. The train departs from Sealdah and reaches Alipurduar Junction. Our destination is New Mall Junction, which is just a few hours drive from Siliguri.

We got on the train at night. The train arrived at Burdwan Junction a 10 minutes late. We passed Shantiniketan station and fell asleep. We reached Malda Town at 3:11 am the next day. The train was late almost right time.

After the train reaches Siliguri station, we can see the charming view of the mountains. The fare of sleeper coach of our train is 360 rupees, the fare of AC three tier is 970 rupees, and the fare of AC first class is 2310 rupees. We reached New Mall Junction and started our journey towards Lava after renting a car.

On the way to Lava Monastery and Neora Valley National Park

Our journey started early in the morning. In the morning light, the car was running on a narrow, winding mountain road. The beauty of the tea gardens and green vegetation around us was mesmerizing. These beautiful scenes of nature seemed to be wiping our tiredness.

Lava Monastery: In Search of Dark Beauty

After reaching Lava Monastery we entered in a calm atmosphere. The architecture of the monastery, colorful flags and peaceful environment filled our mind with peace. The Buddha statue and the smell of incense seem to have given a unique dimension to this place. The history and spiritual atmosphere of this place fascinated us.

Neora Valley National Park: A mystical world of nature

We left Lava Monastery on the way to Neora Valley National Park. As we walked through the forest, we saw many different types of animals. Although there is a possibility of meeting red panda and leopard here, we could not see it. But the dense greenery of the forest and the chirping of the mountain birds filled our mind with a new tune.

Lungchu: Relaxing in the mountains

After arriving at Lungthun, we took a bath, freshened up and sat down for lunch. The experience of sitting on the mountainside was really wonderful. Lunch of hot salad, rice, potato, dal, egg omelette and fresh vegetables filled us with a new enthusiasm by removing our tiredness.

The Natural Description of Lungchu

After reaching Lungchu we felt as if we have entered into a beautiful collage of nature. All around, there are lush green trees, waterfalls, and rivers flowing below; such a combination of nature is truly fascinating. The cool breeze here and the song of the birds filled our mind with a new peace.

Skyline Retreat Lungchu: our comfortable address

Our stay was at Skyline Retreat Lungchu, a unique eco-friendly homestay set in the lap of the hills. Beautiful mountain views from every room. There was a touch of comfort in every corner of this homestay. During our stay here we felt as if we were taking shelter in a peaceful nest amidst nature. The hospitality of the homestay and the comfortable atmosphere of the house filled our mind with peace. After the hike, we headed back up the mountain. Sitting on the lap of the mountain we enjoyed the view of the sunset, which in a word is charming. The package fare of this homestay is Rs 1400 per person per day, including food.

The next day we were off to visit some more places. While leaving the lap of the mountain, it seemed as if this proximity to nature has lit a new light in our hearts. We look forward to sharing the story of the next destination.
